Berkshire Residents Survey on Digital 2025 – Headline Results

Over 1,600 voices from across Berkshire share their digital experiences.
In early 2025, we asked residents across Berkshire to tell us about their digital lives—how they connect, what challenges they face, and how they feel about digital access and inclusion. The response was incredible, with over 1,600 submissions from all six unitary authority areas.
We’re excited to share the key headline results from the Berkshire Residents Survey on Digital 2025.
Where Responses Came From:
Wokingham: 30%
West Berkshire: 20%
Bracknell Forest: 16%
Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead: 19%
Reading: 14%
Slough: 1%
Devices and Digital Access:
94% of respondents own a smartphone
96% have fixed line broadband at home
79% reported good mobile coverage at home
61% still have a landline, but 40% rarely use it
Awareness of Initiatives:
55% had heard of the Superfast Broadband Project
72% had not heard of Project Gigabit
71% were aware of the Copper Switchover
43% didn’t know about council-run digital services
Confidence and Usage:
Almost all digital tasks could be completed confidently
65% had never attended a digital skills course
44% had never searched for a job online
30% had never streamed on social media
Barriers and Challenges:
58% said broadband was “somewhat expensive”
92% said internet-enabled devices were expensive
93% had not participated in any digital inclusion programme
94% were unaware of community initiatives to improve digital skills
83% felt there were no services they wanted to access but couldn’t
What Residents Want in the Future:
58%: more affordable internet access
46%: faster internet speeds
43%: better access to public Wi-Fi
